Siboney Beach Club In Antigua

Siboney in Antigua first came into my radar when I was researching, privately locally owned hotels in Antigua.

It struck me as possibly one of the more secluded romantic Caribbean resorts, and so having spent my honeymoon in Cocos in what I still think is one of the best Caribbean honeymoons hotels, I was anxious to return and try the Siboney Beach Club.

We stayed on the top, third floor in a one bedroom suite, with a small kitchen. It was very comfortable, well decorated, but we would have liked it air conditioned throughout. Only the bedroom has airconditioning, and not the other rooms, which could be unbearably hot, even with a ceiling fan.

There were also mossies but Deet took care of that problem, and I don't wish to be critical really because the Siboney Beach Club gave us a great vacation, not least because of the input of the owner Tony Johnson who has a handle on everything, and it is so nice to stay in an hotel where the owner and not a faceless manager is so ever present.

Siboney is located at the far end of Dickenson Bay, although it's not as beautiful as we were led to believe, with a Sandals resort to the right of the hotel, the beach there was far too busy, but in fairness go to the left past some crumbling buildings and you come upon a lovely deserted beach, totally peaceful.

There is an excellent restaurant right next to the hotel called the Coconut Grove, literally right on top of the beach, with superb food, at breakfast lunch and dinner, although at a price!
Be careful in Antigua with your money, because everything is in US$, not EC$ as it should be, and it can be difficult to get your hands on cash from an ATM, because they seem to be permanently empty!!

There is a lovely good size pool in the beautifully lush, and well maintained gardens, and you'll often have it to yourself.

The sunsets are another memory of Siboney in Antigua, seen with the inevitable rum punch in hand.

Siboney in Antigua is undoubtedly one of the more secluded romantic Caribbean Resorts, and is exactly the right place to stay for people like us who hate all-inclusive gin palaces.

Things like older bed mattresses, no safes, old decorating, long walks to the casino, restraunts, shows, or even a taxi. Did you know there are monorail trains running right behind some of the rooms? How about a roller coaster right outside your window? And lots more. Just remember "cheapest" is just that. Ask at the front desk at check-in exactly where your room is, look at it before signing in if possible.

Why book your Hotel first? Las Vegas is booked up an average of 94% year round, so plan ahead (at least 30+ days is recommended) to get the exact days you want, where you want, room quality you want. If you are in or near Washington State, you should definitely check out Crystal Mountain. With an elevation of 7004 feet and a vertical drop of 3102 feet, Crystal Mountain actually sits below Mount Rainier, which has a top elevation of 14,408 feet. Between the months of November and April, several feet of fresh powder falls on Crystal Mountain, due to the cold Cascade storms common to the area.

This is rough terrain, and there is little offered to beginners as far as the ease of the trails go. But lessons are available, as well as rentals for ski's and other equipment. At Crystal Mountain, there are more than 2300 acres and fifty trails, making this the largest ski area in the state of Washington. There are ten lifts available: 2 high speed six passenger lifts, 2 high speed quads, 2 triple chairs, 3 double chairs, and 1 children's surface lift.

The season runs from the middle of November to the middle of April, when the most snow fall is experienced. There are several places to choose for lodging, meals, and nightly entertainment, but the biggest attraction is the skiing, of course.

The Crystal Mountain Express Buss service runs on weekends from the middle of December to the middle of March. You will be picked up from your lodge and dropped off at the base plaza - where you can begin a full day of fun on the slopes. After a day of skiing, you should definitely head over to East Peak Massage & Fitness to take advantage of the hot tub, sauna, showers, and even the game room. Massages are also available, with a reservation.

If your kids aren't quite ready for the black diamond trails - but you are - you can register them in the Kid's Club. The Kid's Club is open from 8am to 4pm each day for children aged four to eleven years old. The kid's aged 4 - 11 will be supervised while they ski on a 'kid appropriate' slope, and snowboarding is also available for children aged 7 - 11 years old. Your child will have fun, while being supervised and taught.

The cost of the care includes a four hour lesson, a lift ticket, lunch, and supervision. Rental equipment is available for the kids for an additional fee.

Everyone has fun at Crystal Mountain. It is a great place for a family vacation, but again, the slopes are more for intermediate skiers and expert skiers - although beginners will have fun as well. Just use good sense, and avoid trails that you don't feel like your ready for.

An ocean cruise is certainly a classic romantic vacation. Why not escape it all - even the sight of land. Isolated together out at sea, in the comfort of a cruise ship - that can be very romantic. There are a couple things to consider, though, if you want to keep the romance going.

First, thoroughly investigate and talk about your options. Perhaps you both were assuming the other wanted a traditional warm-water cruise, when in reality you both would love to watch whales and glaciers on an Alaskan cruise. It's not just about the many possible destinations, either. There are different styles of cruises, from pure sightseeing ones to more active ones to "party boats." Be sure the cruise has activities that you'll enjoy participating in together.

You also need to be sure you budget enough so money worries don't steal the romance from the vacation. Think about what you'll be doing, both on and off the ship. It isn't romantic to run out of money on a vacation, and cruise ship bars are notoriously expensive.

Romantic vacations might include train rides, if you both like to relax and take in the scenery. If money is tight, you can do like we did in northern Florida. We camped in our conversion van at a state campground on the beach. Our days were spent collecting shells together, swimming, and flying a kite. One evening we took our chairs down by the water to watch the sunset. The beaches of the Great Lakes are another great place for a romantic vacation, and are even more affordable.

Another low-cost romantic vacation idea is to rent the little cabins that can be found in many state parks. Wilderness State Park in northern Michigan, for example, has cabins that are closer to the beach, and those that require you to hike into the woods a few miles. They are reasonable, and you can pack in good food and a bottle of wine to add to the romance.

It can be very affordable and romantic to spend some time together in a small town that is surrounded by beautiful scenery. Some of our favorites include Lone Pine, California, Anaconda, Montana, Silverton, Colorado, and Marquette, Michigan. Try wandering the streets of walkable small towns, exploring the woods and fields around them, eating in local cafes and going to classic small-town theaters. For my wife and I, this is one of our favorite romantic vacation ideas.

Collectively, Aruba's beaches are consistently ranked among the cleanest, widest and most beautiful of the Caribbean and the world.

On the island's southwestern coast, tourists will find one beach after another, each with its own distinct atmosphere and diverse possibilities. As nearly all of the beaches are public, access is a breeze. Furthermore, several Caribbean beaches have change and shower facilities, shade huts and water sport equipment provided by Aruba resorts and hotels.

For travelers in search of more privacy, a number of public beaches offer dazzling blue water and immaculate sand without the crowds.

While most of Aruba's best beaches are concentrated on the southwestern coast, a number of less frequented beaches on the eastern shores offer unique opportunities for families, surfers and sightseers.

Western Aruba
Arashi, Boca Catalina and Malmok Beaches near the California Lighthouse at the northwestern tip of the island, are all part of the Arashi Underwater Park. Snorkelers and swimmers can glimpse large elk horn coral, sea sponges and schools of colorful fish just six feet below the water's surface.

Hadikurari Beach, directly south of Malmok Beach, is well known for its fantastic windsurfing. The Hi-Winds Pro-Am Windsurfing Competition is held here each June, but the vibrant sails and accomplished surfers entertain spectators year-round. Also known as fishermen's huts, numerous shade huts and picnic tables are available for public use at Hadikurari.

Perhaps Aruba's most famous and frequented beach, Palm Beach features miles of powdery, freshly raked sand, excellent swimming conditions, pristine water and numerous watersport activities. Palm Beach is also one of the best-equipped and serviced beaches on the island; public changing areas and refreshment stands are readily available. What's more, many of the island's finest resorts and hotels overlook the popular beach, granting a short walk to paradise for many travelers. Additionally, many resorts offer watersports equipment, shade huts and lounge chairs for their guests.

Directly south of Palm Beach behind a rocky outcropping lies Eagle Beach. With even more clean sand and luminous water than Palm Beach and fewer high-rise resorts, Eagle Beach is Palm's less-crowded cousin. Though watersports and beach activities are still abundant here, Eagle Beach remains a local favorite and an ideal picnic spot.

Continuing south from Eagle Beach, the island's widest stretch of unspoiled sand rests at Manchebo Beach. As the land juts out further into the Caribbean Sea at Punto Brabo, the surf here is much ber than at Eagle Beach. Motorized watersports are not permitted at Manchebo, allowing this beach to retain a sense of tropical seclusion. As the coastline again turns inward south of Manchebo, the typically overlooked Druif and Surfside Beaches offer excellent swimming conditions.

Sonesta Island, a 40-acre private tropical retreat with spectacular white sand beaches, secluded coves and protected swimming areas, has long been a tourist favorite. Here, travelers can rest in hammocks under shady palm trees or engage in snorkeling, scuba diving or kayaking.

Eastern Aruba
As the name might imply, Baby Beach is known as Aruba's premier family beach, highlighted by its placid turquoise waters and endless sand. Located at the southeastern end of the island in the area known as Seroe Colorado, the calm lagoon surrounding the beach is also ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

Like so many other beaches in Aruba, Rodgers Beach features plush sand and excellent swimming in reef-protected waters. Though the surf at Rodgers is slightly more robust than at Baby Beach, recreation is still possible for the whole family. Lastly, as one of the few accessible beaches on Aruba's windward side, Dos Playa is a smaller white sand beach surrounded by an imposing, rocky coastline. For those in search of waves for a challenging surfing experience, Dos Playa is certainly the beach of choice.

If you own a pet at some point you might have to travel with that pet. It is very important to take your pets well being and safety into consideration.

I have several great tips to help you get through the challenge of traveling with your pet.
If the pet is to be accompanying you on an airplane, consider calling several airlines and check if you're particular pet would be perhaps allowed to ride in the passengers' compartment, with you. Many airlines are letting certain sized dogs and cats do just that. Small pets are allowed to sit at your feet in their carriers. Other airlines will allow you to purchase a seat for the pet carrier.

One way or the other, you will need a carrier for your pet. When choosing a carrier, there are a few things to consider. For safety it is recommenced to choose a carrier that your dog can just stand up in, and be able to turn around in. This size carrier promotes the dog to lie down and rest and is much safer in case of sudden unpredicted flight shift changes. That could cause the dog to be hurt if tossed into the sides of the carrier with a greater force due to it being to spacious.

If your dog has a hyperactive personality and you are concerned that the pet may be very hyperactive and upset due to travel, speak to your veterinarian in regards to possibly prescribing a mild tranquillizer for the flight.

Never, let me repeat never attempt to medicate your animal without first having talked to its veterinarian. This practice is dangerous.

It is wise to feed your dog about 3-4 hours prior to travel on an airplane. This gives the dog a better chance of not experiencing nausea or vomiting. Make sure to give the dog ampul time to void before heading to the airport, and before putting the pet in the carrier, for the flight. Offer a small mount of water before putting the dog in the carrier.

It is also smart to book your flight in the morning hours. Many airlines have strict rules that pets cannot travel in cargo if the temperature is above 85 degrees. With an early flight as a rule this won't be a problem.

When packing your dogs supplies, pack the food and goodies that they are accustom. If you are traveling to a destination that you might have a fear of the water you will consume? Make sure you consider the water your pet will consume. You won't want your pet to develop digestion problems away from home. Pack one of the pet's toys, and if they have a favorite blanket, I would bring it along too.

When taking your pet outside, make sure they are leashed at all times. Pets (especially dogs) are creatures of habit, and could become lost in a strange environment.

Have a recent picture of your pet; in the case the pet becomes lost. Last but not least. Have a dog tag made before leaving home. The tag should have where you are staying on your trip. Add this tag with his excising tag.

This is beneficial, just in case you have not been able to locate your pet by the time you have to return home .At some point someone may find your beloved pet, and be able to locate you, with the good news.

Are you looking for the perfect beach? Raised in Florida, I understand great beaches...and all of them are different. If you are looking for the whitest sand, visit the panhandle of Florida around Destin, Seaside, Panama City or Ft. Walton Beach.

If you want catch some waves, your best bet will be the east coast cities of Cocoa Beach or Daytona Beach. Looking for peace, quiet and a good cocktail, then the southwest coast cities of Naples or Ft. Myers might be in order. Want to party until the wee hours of the morning, then Miami or Ft. Lauderdale is the place to go...but I warn you, bring you shades because walking out of the bar at 6am when the sun is shining can be a frightening experience!

Finally, you just can't beat the Florida Keys if you want all of the above. And, if you are looking for amazing beaches outside of Florida, it's hard to go wrong with Southern California anywhere from San Diego all the way up to Malibu.

However, let's not be shortsighted and think that all the best beaches in the world are you the U.S. If you have been to the Caribbean, you will see why visitors to all of these islands tend to go back at least every few years. Amazing views and lazy days, ethnic food and fun shopping experiences are what make up all of the "St." islands, Jamaica and the Bahamas. I don't even have time to talk about the Mediterranean Sea and all of its locales.

Looking for a deeper glimpse into history? You might want to visit the Greek Isles or Italy. Venice, Florence, Naples and Rome are steeped in history and amazing places to visit from today and from the Roman Empire 2000 years ago. The home of the 2004 summer Olympics, Athens has enough to keep you learning for a week, not to mention Corinth or Sparta.

Are you an avid Skier? We all know how amazing, breathtaking and fun the Colorado Rockies can be for ski vacations. There are almost too many ski vacation areas to pick from with resorts, vacation home rentals, hotels, long trails, steep hills - you name it, they have it. Breckenridge. Keystone. Beaver Creek. The public transport system is excellent so it's possible to hop from one attraction to the next without any trouble, meaning that you can pack lots of great activities into a short weekend break. Here's a short guide to getting around quickly and easily, from your arrival right up to your departure.

Arriving by air
Paris has two major airports - Orly and Charles de Gaulle. All the big airlines fly into these two airports. There's another airport called Beauvais, which is quite a bit further out of Paris. It's served mainly by budget airlines such as Ryanair. If you don't mind a rather long journey into Paris, it can be a good cheap way to fly to the city.

Charles de Gaulle airport is in a suburb to the north east of Paris called Roissy. It's about 23 kilometres from the city centre and it's well connected by public transport. The Roissyrail train line is part of the Réseau Express Regional (RER) system - a suburban train network. There are trains every 15 minutes from terminal two and terminal three, which take you to Gare du Nord. If you arrive at terminal one, a shuttle bus will take you to the Roissyrail station. If you prefer to take the bus, there's a Roissybus every 15 minutes from terminal one and terminal two. It terminates at the Opéra metro station in the centre of Paris.

Orly is a little closer to Paris - it's 13 kilometres south of the city centre. There's a bus/train connection called Orlyrail. You'll be taken by shuttle bus to the RER train station and from there it's a short journey to Gare d'Austerlitz. There are connections every 30 minutes. If you prefer just to take a bus right into the city centre, there are lots of other frequent shuttle services - Orlybus, Orlyval, Air France buses and Jetbus.

Arriving by train
The national and international train networks in continental Europe are excellent and often the most efficient way to get around, and the Eurostar from London is often the best way to get to Paris from Great Britain. There are six mainline train stations in Paris and all of them are linked to the métro system so it's easy to get around once you arrive in the city. Here's a guide to train arrivals in Paris:

Madrid: A Guide To The Key Sites And Monuments

Spain's capital has enjoyed a serious boom as a city break destination on the last decade. The proliferation of cheap flights has made more and more European cities accessible to weekend travellers. Often overshadowed by the Catalan capital, Barcelona , Madrid is now showing what it has to offer and, more importantly, sharing it with foreign visitors.

"Los Austrias" is as good a place as any to start; the oldest part of the city and still bearing the stamp of the Hapsburg dynasty that had such a dominating influence on Madrid until 1700. The "Plaza Mayor" is the focal point of the area; built by Phillip III between 1617 and 1619, it's an elegant square with a rich and varied history.

This is where the great festivals and celebrations of imperial Madrid took place. Visitors these days won't see quite so much excitement but the square hosts a coin and stamp collectors market on Sundays and hosts live bands and performers during festivals. Expect to pay through the nose in the cafés and restaurants which line the square; some however, will be willing to part with a little extra cash just to be able to soak up the atmosphere of one of Madrid's most famous sites.

Next stop is the "Palacio Real"; Madrid 's royal palace is a monument to the classical Italian baroque style. Charles III was the first king to take residence here in 1714. The grand building has a, seemingly absurd, count of 3,000 rooms. The most famous of these is the Throne Room with its sumptuous decorations. Visitors should also pay heed to the gardens, in particular the "Jardine de Sabatini", which was added to the Palace complex in the 1930's and can provide a bit of peaceful seclusion away from the bustle of the city centre.

Another one of the city's most celebrated landmarks is the "Puerto Del Sol" - originally the location for one of the gates marking the eastern entrance to the city. The gate is reported to have been erected around 1440 to control the comings and goings of merchandise in the Spanish capital.

These days the gate is long gone but the square behind it has taken on the name. It's a lively place, equivalent to Times Square and Trafalgar Square in the US and England respectively, as on new year's eve Madrilenos come here in their thousands to hear the clock chime midnight and see in the new year. It is also the centre point of Spain , kilometre zero is in the centre of the square and the six main highways of Spain radiate from this point.

For a bit of greenery and a shaded stroll then there's no better place than the magnificent "Parque del Buen Retiro"; Madrid's most central park. This verdant expanse covers 350 acres and includes formal gardens, fountains, playgrounds and cafes. There is even a lake where locals and tourists can clash oars on the water. All in all, the perfect place for a picnic or for the kids to let off some steam - bear in mind that the park closes at 10.30pm every evening.

The "Panteon de Goya" is a small chapel that serves as the final resting place to the celebrated artist. The man himself decorated the intricate dome and cupola depicting the miracles of St Anthony and it is certainly one of the city's lesser known attractions that is well worth a visit.

One final stop on our tour takes us a little way out of Madrid 's centre to the home of one of the world's most famous football teams. The Santiago Bernabeu stadium has been home to Real Madrid CF since 1947 and the 80,000 seater stadium is an impressive site whether you're a fan of football or not. The stadium houses and excellent museum and is open most days for tours where you get the chance to see the stadium from the main stand and entrance into the playing tunnel and even the changing rooms.

Get to the parks early in the day. Most families like to sleep in and enjoy a late breakfast. So even with the parks opening early in the day they are relatively empty first thing in the morning. Ride the park rides at the back of the park first. It may take a while to walk into the park but most other patrons stop at the first rides and ride those. As the park starts to fill they move to the back rides. Utilize this time to enjoy some of the popular rides at the back of the park and save your fastpass tickets.

At the start of the day do not grab fast pass tickets, wait until the park starts to see more traffic. You need to be aware that there is a time limit on the frequency that you can grab a fast pass ticket. So you cannot obtain another fast pass ticket until the designated time, this time will be on your fast pass ticket. Use these sparingly to pick the choice rides. While you are waiting on your fast pass ticket time enjoy other areas of the parks. When you have to opportunity to pick up your next fast pass then do so immediately. Only at this point can you use the original ticket.
Make sure that you carry a backpack with you into the park.

This pack will serve you well during the day. You should pack in water, and drinks in amounts that are comfortable to carry. This will save you dearly during the day. The cost of drinks and supplies inside the park walls is extravagant.

If you have two adults with you then you will need to team up to allow the kids to get signatures from the characters. Once you are ¾ of the way to a character one of the adults needs to go to the next line to wait for the character while the kids get the first signature. This will dramatically increase your time through the lines for characters.

Make sure you carry a marker to place on your car for the afternoon return trip. The best marker that I have found is those that your local sports teams have for the cars. Virtually everyone has seen the car flag. Purchase two of these prior to the trip to display on your car. This will make it simple to find your car in the afternoon after a hard day in the parks.
Finally, relax and enjoy your vacation. Disney is an exciting trip for you and the kids. If things don't go exactly as planned just let it go and enjoy.

Unless you happen to be wealthy and have a lot of free time, chances are you wish you could fly more often than you currently can. Airfare is, of course, the most cost prohibitive element of long distance travel.

Many people find themselves in situations where they know someone they could stay with in another city - so accommodations would be free - but there's simply no way of being able to get there affordably. In terms of discount travel, there are some solutions to expensive airfares that are worth looking into if you are flexible and interested on a short visit rather than a long trip.

One of the cheapest ways you can fly is called courier flying. How this works is: courier companies exist that specialize in delivering relatively small packages quickly - things like important business documents etc. . . and what these companies want is your baggage allotment on a flight. So they will offer extremely discounted fares in order to get your baggage allotment.

If you sign up for a courier flight, your job will be to show up at the airport with carry on luggage only, meet someone with a package who will check it onto the plane in your space (you won't normally have to handle the package), and take the flight. In most cases you are required to take a return flight as well in a relatively short time (usually a few days, and rarely more than a month), which is why courier travel is more suitable to quick cross-country visits than long term travel.

Here are some samples of the approximate discounts on return fares, obtained through a simple internet search: New York to Paris, $250; Los Angeles to Sydney, $400. In some cases, if you are on their call list, the courier may become desperate with a last minute flight and offer it for free.

Now, with such extreme discounts, there must be a catch, right? Of course: courier flying would be simply too good to be true it didn't come with an extreme lack of flexibility. Courier flying works by placing yourself on a list to be contacted by the companies. You're not likely to receive much notice, and until you board the plane, your fate is entirely in the hands of the courier company: if there is a change or a problem with the package, for example, you're out of luck.

More so than other types of discount travel, courier flying is dependant on you being able to establish a repoire with the company. If you have been flexible and completed flights for a company in the past, you may be able to establish a relationship where they call you first to offer a flight, in which case you'll have some more options.

Regardless, to engage in courier flying you have to be very flexible, and although it is one of the most extreme forms of discount travel available, it remains fairly restrictive. If you're interested your best bet is to try one or two courier flights and hope that you can establish a good relationship with the company.
